Following the Supreme Court’s verdict upholding the cancellation of 26,000 jobs under the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment, the INTUC Seva Dal organized a protest at College Square in Kolkata on Saturday. The protestors gathered in front of the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and blocked the road to demonstrate against what they called the collapse of the education recruitment system in the state. They accused the state government of being responsible for the loss of jobs and demanded clarity on the future of the affected candidates.
The protest was led by Promod Pandey, President of the INTUC Seva Dal (West Bengal), and supported by Pradesh Congress General Secretary Ashutosh Chatterjee. In their address, they raised concerns about the uncertainty faced by the thousands who lost jobs after the verdict. They also highlighted that around 8,000 schools in the state are already closed due to lack of teachers, and no new recruitments have been made. The leaders demanded a clear roadmap from the state government for recruitment and restoration of the education system.
The INTUC Seva Dal stated that the responsibility for the widespread recruitment irregularities lies with the current state administration. They mentioned that while the Chief Minister has claimed one lakh vacancies remain, there has been no official announcement regarding the timeline or process for filling those posts. The protest aimed to draw attention to the alleged failure in maintaining transparency and accountability in public service appointments in the education sector.
